For example, your great-grandfather’s name may be John Smith. His family group sheet and accompanying documents and photographs would be simple to file and retrieve in an alphabetical system when you’re first beginning. But as your research progresses, you soon learn that you have 60 different John Smith individuals in your database. How are you going to quickly file their documents? You would have to sort through the documents of all 60 John Smiths to find the correct one. I magine if you could find anything in a matter of seconds! Now that would be a good filing system.
