For example, your great-grandfather’s name may be John Smith. His family group sheet and accompanying documents and photographs would be simple to file and retrieve if filed behind the John Smith who had a wife Elizabeth and a son Jonathan. But as the research progresses, there are 60 different John Smiths in your database with approximately the same birth place and age. How are you going to quickly file their documents? You would have to sort through the documents of all 60 John Smiths to find the correct one. However, imagine if you could find anything in a matter of seconds! Now that would be a good filing system.
